To the best of this reporter's elephant-like memory, Monday night football has never been called off on account of rain. In fact, we have only had a light drizzle... once! But tonight was payback: the heaven's opened up and what came out was not rain and not hail but snow! A blizzard hit the Slayer barracks just as the war was about to start.
This made play very difficult due to the snow blowing into our eyes and, for those of us who sampled nets, the temperature turned our hands a funny shade of blue. Guv, tonight's team selector, quickly took his team to the half of the pitch where they would have the wind in their backs. It was to be little consolation for Sammy, who was first in the Winners' nets. Though fully dressed for the occassion, he looked colder than a frozen turkey leg.
And that's how it started: amidst a bitter and piercing north wind, blinding and driving snow. Indeed, had these conditions happened in a Premiership match, it would be called off because their all a bunch of jessies.
But not the Slayers. Oh no... they're fighters...
