This game was special. After two years of physiotherapy after an injury, Slayer Stephen Little once again donned the sacred plimsoles of indoor football. It was an emotive moment for the tall man with brown hair as the big yellow ball was kicked into kingdom-come by Ormo to signify the start of the game.
A welcome return to the field of no grass was extended to Sammy and Pritch, too. These two juggernauts were placed in opposing teams and regularly clashed in a battle for the big yellow ball. Sammy, with the advantage of speed, was quick to move the ball forward and get into goal scoring positions. Pritch, with the advantage of strength, was an immovable force over the ball and helped the Winners retain possession.
The little French man, who we lovingly refer to as "The Pete", was his usual self: taking the ball round the opposition twice, scoring from his own half with his left foot, jumping higher than a pixie and generally doing everything right. Unfortunately his Scottish brother was unavailable for play due to an injury sustained in Monday's game.
Guv and Ian completed the roster for the Losers and both played some sterling football. In fact, the scoreline does not reflect how close the game truly was.
A canditate for Goal of the Season could be when Stevie Little, launched the ball from just beside his own net over the heads of both teams and straight into the opposition's net... regaining a two point advantage for the Winners in the closing stages.
Play of the Day, in my opinion, was executed by the Losers and involved each player. Guv, in nets, passed the big yellow ball to Ian. Under pressure from Hugh, Ian passes to Sammy who gets round Pete and moves the ball forward at pace. Spotting Ormo on the opposite side of the penalty box, Sammy passes to him. Ormo, under pressure from Stevie and Ingy, passes to Piece, who had made a first rate run that no one spotted. Piece launches the ball passed not only Stevie and Ingy but also Pritch in nets. Simply Splendid.
Winners
Stephen "Stevo" Little is well deserved of this week's coveted trophy that not even David "Girlie Boy" Beckham has been awarded. Returning for his first match in two years due to injury, his control, poise and sweat was just like always - top class.
